Contact Wheel Recovering

Often going unnoticed, the tread on the contact wheel of your belt linishers can be perishable rubber and so will wear over time, creating an uneven surface over which belts will run. Not only does this put extra pressure on their joins and therefore shorten belt life, but it could potentially increase vibration or ‘chatter’, resulting in an inconsistent finish to the workpiece.

As such it is highly recommended to monitor the condition of contact wheels for wear and tear. When this is visible it is important to minimise the impact on your production quality, costs & schedule by having the wheel recovered. The core will be re-balanced and then the covering material applied, essentially bringing them back to as good as new.

We offer a contact wheel recovering service, which applies a new tread to the desired specification. This includes the serration configuration, with the options being either grooved, which provides a faster cut and longer belt life, or smooth, and the hardness or ‘durometer’ – the higher the durometer the harder the wheel. 55 duro or lower is generally considered soft and used for achieving a better finish rather than stock removal, while 65 or higher is hard and will remove material more aggressively but will not achieve as fine a finish.
