Why Use Unitised Abrasives?
Unitised abrasives are 3D compressed abrasives made by bonding crimped nylon threads into an open web structure and impregnating them with engineered abrasive grit. Unlike traditional materials, the aggression of unitised abrasives is decided less by the grit and more by the density of the grain. Lower density means more flexibility and improved finishing, while a higher density means more aggressive stock removal. When you use unitised abrasives, you will see they conform slightly to the workpiece surface. This makes them perfect for getting a high-quality finish without 'gouging' or undercutting the material. Surprisingly, you can get a very high-quality finish in fewer steps than traditional abrasives.
Unitised abrasives are used for finishing stainless steel, aluminium, high grade or exotic steel alloys. Architects, metal fabricators and interior designers use them to get high spec finishes. They are essential in pharmaceuticals and petrochemicals where material properties count. Whether you’re working on modern buildings or intricate balustrades, unitised abrasives can deliver.
